Albert E. Fernald


First Lieutenant Albert E. Fernald was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Fernald received the countrys highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of Five Forks in Virginia onApril 1865. He was honored with the award onMay 1865.

Fernald was born in Winterport, Maine onMay 1838. He enlisted into the 20th Maine Infantry. He died onDecember 1908 and his remains are interred at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Maine.
